Partnership 2020

Due to high administrative costs, the decision was made to consolidate the US and Canada offices, keeping the US office open, and closing the Canadian office. Harvest Ministries International, a long-time friend and supporter of Be A Hero, will receive, receipt, and disburse donations from Canadians for Be A Hero Children’s Homes and projects, as a department of their ministry. The children will continue to receive the child sponsorship funds, providing them with the support so vital to their care.

Important Message to Canadian Donors from the Founders, Wesley and Stacey Campbell

Be A Hero has raised millions of dollars for children at risk since inception in 2004. Thousands of children have been taken from the streets, brothels, slavery, and abusive situations and provided with loving care, a safe home to live in, food and clothing, and education. In addition to building facilities such as children’s homes, schools, and community centres, Be A Hero has raised monthly support to help keep these facilities open. Without the ongoing monthly support, the children’s homes and schools would close.  Closing children’s homes is not an option. The fate the children would face is unknown but unthinkable. Each one of these children is a precious treasure, rescued from various horrific situations, now safe, loved, cared for, and being educated for a bright future. We have the donors to keep supporting these children but…

The cost of running and maintaining a Canadian charity, and the amount of duplication of expenses in the charity realm is staggering.  Every individual charity pays for their own staff, facilities rental, insurance, banking, accounting, software programs for donor management and bookkeeping, computers, printers etc. Keeping compliant with CRA regulations is another large expense as annual audits are mandatory. We have come to realize that more funds could be going out to the children in need if we could cut down on this wasteful duplication. After much consultation and deliberation,  Be A Hero Canada has made a decision to partner with Harvest Ministries International (HMI). HMI is run by a long-time Be A Hero Board of Director’s member, Art Lucier.  Art has been involved with Be A Hero and all of our projects for over a decade. HMI will take over the administration and bookkeeping of Be A Hero Canada. This partnership will enable the funds to continue to go out to our children’s homes while slashing our overhead costs. Less money going to administration/ more money going to the children at risk!

Starting in January of 2020, donations to Be A Hero projects and programs, including child sponsorship, will be received, receipted and disbursed by Harvest Ministries International. ALL CANADIAN DONATIONS TO BE A HERO MUST BE MADE TO HARVEST MINISTRIES (with a note directing the donation to Be A Hero). The address, phone number, website and email addresses will remain the same. The mission remains the same – this is just an administrative change. Wesley and Stacey Campbell will continue to raise awareness and funds for our projects such as the anti-human trafficking programs in India and Philippines, our children’s homes, and building projects. Wesley Campbell will continue as President, and the current Board of Directors will stay the same. Also, BE A HERO USA [tax receipting charity 501(c)(3)] WILL CONTINUE TO FUNCTION JUST AS IT ALWAYS HAS.

To make a donation, click here.  If you prefer to make your donations by cheque, make them payable to Harvest Ministries.  Please, we implore you to not discontinue your support at this time!  Your donations feed and house orphaned and other vulnerable children and that will not change!  Our children’s homes already operate on shoestring budgets, and every donation is vital. All donations designated for child sponsorship or a children’s home will go to that home.

If you have any questions or concerns about this partnership, please call or email. We sincerely hope you will be pleased about this prudent, cost-saving decision. We are so very grateful for all the love and compassion you have shown over the years with your faithful giving! “Pure and undefiled religion is this: To take care of widows and orphans” James 1:27

Much love,

Wesley and Stacey Campbell
